INTO THE FLOW…
Stand on the river’s banks and ponder. Before you, observe the ebb and flow – the shifting, swirling course of dark, brackish waters – and ponder what’s hidden beneath the surface. Around you, observe the ebb and flow – the daily comings and goings of the mass of humanity – and ponder what’s hidden within the minds and hearts of your fellow denizens.
We build and inhabit cities for opportunity. Culture, commerce, and communication… cities bring people together for a myriad of reasons and cross-purposes. And when we build and inhabit cities near water, we accept risk along with opportunity. Water to drink; and water to drown. Irrigation, and inundation. Transportation, and transformation. The river gives; the river takes away. Humans cling to the edges… inhabiting but a sliver of space, for a sliver in time. But always, the river rolls on.
We invite you to consider here – betwixt the grand spectacle of the eternal river and the grinding minutia of our everyday lives – the delightful interplay of the mundane and the transcendent. Breathe in the air that skips across the surface of the waters, feel the mud and sand beneath you, hear the babbling conversation between current and rocks… drink it all in if you dare. You are not here by accident. Then turn and wade back into the meandering currents of your everyday urban existence. Different flow, same experience.
It’s been said that you never step in the same river twice. Isn’t that what keeps us coming back to the river, time and time again? You’re here for a reason.
Enjoy the flow!
